Healed vs. Unhealed: The Journey to True Greatness

The difference between being healed and unhealed is transformational and deeply spiritual. I know this because I’ve been on both sides. There was a time in my life when I was unhealed—angry, bitter, and unable to see the role I played in my own struggles. I blamed others, avoided accountability, and surrounded myself with toxic energy. But as painful as it was, the pruning process began. Slowly, God revealed the parts of me that needed healing, and though the journey hasn’t been easy, I give Him all the glory for where I am today.

The Characteristics of Being Unhealed

When we are unhealed, our actions and mindset reflect it:

  • Lack of Accountability: We blame others for our circumstances instead of reflecting on our actions.

  • Gossip and Negativity: Instead of building others up, we tear them down to make ourselves feel better.

  • Resistance to Growth: Staying in our comfort zone feels safe but keeps us stagnant.

Unhealed people live with unresolved pain, often projecting it onto those around them. As Proverbs 27:6 says, “Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.” It’s hard to face the truth, but it’s in facing it that healing begins.

The Freedom of Being Healed

A healed person lives differently. She takes responsibility for her actions, speaks life over others, and allows her work to speak for itself. A healed woman:

  • Lifts Others Up: She encourages others to succeed, even while climbing her own mountains.

  • Leads by Example: She doesn’t need to prove her worth to anyone—her actions reflect her heart.

  • Seeks Validation from God: She no longer chases external approval but rests in her identity as God’s beloved.

The Healing Journey

Healing is not a one-time event; it’s a lifelong process that requires faith, surrender, and self-awareness. For me, healing began when I stopped running from the pain and started allowing God to prune me. Like a gardener tending to a tree, He removed the dead, unhealthy parts of my life so new growth could flourish.

Pruning can be painful, but it’s necessary. As John 15:2 reminds us, “Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” Embracing the pruning process leads us to the greatness God has called us to.
